Sarah Lane, bailarina profesional que participó como doble de Natalie Portman en la película de Aronofsky, ha declarado a Entertainment Weekly lo siguiente:Querían crear la impresión de que Natalie es una especie de prodigio al convertirse en bailarina en un año y medio de prácticas, todo era por el Oscar.
Es degradante para la profesión, y a mí misma ya que llevo 22 años bailando.

Es cierto que Natalie nunca hizo el 100% del baile, pero también es que nunca lo han declarado así. El coreógrafo y marido de la actriz dijo que el 85% del baile mostrado lo hizo Natalie. Es obvio que necesitó dobles en escenas en las que ella se multiplicaba y tenían que superponer la cara de Portman en las demás bailarinas, y ahí es donde la actriz busca su explicación.
Durante la película vemos a varias Portman bailando juntas, y es en esos momentos en que Natalie estaba en escena con más bailarines, que en postproducción eran sustituidas y reemplazadas por clones de la protagonista. Tanto el director como la actriz dijeron desde un principio que las escenas más arriesgadas y difíciles no las hizo Portman, sino una especialista (en este caso Sarah), como en los momentos que se sostenía en puntas mucho tiempo, o de riesgo físico para la actriz. Pero Natalie ya tenía nociones de ballet al haberlo practicado en su infancia.
No terminamos de creer a la bailarina, porque nunca han dicho que el 100% fuera hecho por la actriz, y lo vemos como una llamada de atención aprovechando el éxito, y encima quitando mérito al impecable trabajo de Natalie diciendo que solamente hizo el 5%.
